Sachar, Louis. Holes. New York: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1998. Print.

The theme I will be using is courage and the novel i am reading is Holes by Louis Sachar. Courage is to stand up, to fight, to try even when the odds are stacked against you or you feel you can't do it but you try. In Holes Stanley's friend Zero (Hector) runs away and stanley doesn't know if he is dead. Stanley is thinking weather to run after Zero and risk everything or stay where he is. Stanley gathers up his courage and runs after zero because it was the right thing to do. But to do that Stanley had the courage to face the odds and go find his friend.

The book I am reading is The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. Some of the elements my book has are few characters, No unnecessary details, conflict, suspense and a turning point. There are only about 7 or 8 main characters who speak regularly and are central to the plot. there are more little or unimportant characters of course but they are not central to the plot. There are no unnessescary details. Of course there are little fine details but no details are wasted or used for no reason. There is so much suspense in this novel. Almost every moment you wonder what is going to happen to the characters. the turning point was very good. It was subtle yet interesting and really kickstarted the back half of the story.
